Adverse weather conditions

A

You will be aware that there is an amber weather warning across parts of the South Coast for this evening and overnight.

We aim to keep the school open during inclement weather, securing student and staff safety through gritting, regular risk assessments and where necessary cordoning off unsafe or icy areas.

Important:

The Health and Social Care Examination Year 11 will go ahead and Year 11 students who have worked hard and prepared for the exam need to ensure they are in school by 8.30.

This will go ahead even if there is significant snow and ice.  We have a team of staff who live near to the school on stand by to ensure the exam will go ahead under any circumstances.

Poetry Live School Trip to London – Years 10 and 11:  The coach company and ‘Poetry Live’ said they will do everything they can to ensure the activity goes ahead.

Students attending the trip need to ensure they arrive to school by 7.45.

If the coach company or ‘Poetry Live’ cancel because of inclement weather we will post on the school website by 7.00 in the morning and email parents/carers.

Planning for snow and ice

We know that in almost all circumstances, students are able to make their way to school safely, and we can secure the safety of the site.  For the school, our decision to partially or fully close is only made when there are (or there are likely to be) significant difficulties for an adequate number of staff to travel safely to and from Gosport due to road conditions.  We will close or partially close only if we do not have the staffing to support the safe operation of the school.   If we have made the difficult decision for a partial or full closure we will inform you as soon as we possibly can: on the school website (which triggers a facebook message,) an email to all parents and carers, informing the local radio stations.
