Bella Birchwood Event to Thank Community Volunteers

The Gosport and Fareham Multi-Academy Trust (GFM) welcomed the Queen’s Representative in Hampshire to thank community volunteers for their efforts during the Coronavirus pandemic.

On Wednesday 22 September, Deputy Lieutenant Arabella (Bella) Birdwood visited the GFM to thank staff and volunteers for their sheer determination, enthusiasm and loyalty to helping the schools battle through the difficulties faced during the Covid-19 lockdown.

Volunteer groups included Acts of Kindness, Military Mentors, Abri Housing Association, School Pastors, the GFM Lateral Flow Testing team and GFM colleagues.

Bella said: “I want to show my appreciation and gratitude for all the efforts. Schools had to adapt to extraordinary circumstances and try to give their students some sort of community, and I know how difficult this has been.

“It is a day to say thank you. Thank you for what you’ve done and are still doing, during this beastly time.

“A huge thank you, well done, we are really aware of what schools have done and how difficult it was. We are right behind you.”

Executive Headteacher Chris Willis said: “It signiliases the huge impact we had in Gosport and Fareham during the pandemic.

“I am delighted to say how grateful we are of our volunteers that played such a significant part in keeping our children and our families safe and connected. It is such a huge testament to what Gosport is as a community.”
