Carnival workshop

GFM students have been working with carnival design company Shademarkers.

As part of the new programme of Arts activity at St John’s, Forton Road, Gosport, they have been taking part in workshops and working with creative professionals.

They will be bringing their costumes to life for Brouhaha in Gosport town centre on 17 September: https://www.gosportheritage.co.uk/brouhaha-carnival-parade/

Community Arts Leader for the GFM and St Johns’, Eleanor Hawkridge, said: “The students are going to be able to represent their schools again at a professional performance event, after making Gosport proud in London a few months ago. This time the whole community can come and witness their talent, and celebrate the joy of Carnival together!

“At the end of the first workshop and rehearsal, the group put on a showcase performance to a visiting cohort of Gosport Ambassadors, brought together by Portsmouth and Gosport City Councils in collaboration with Hampshire Cultural Trust. The ambassadors were all really impressed with the show and will be looking forward to seeing the full spectacle on the 17th!”
Edit on 14.9.22: The Brouhaha event has been postponed due to the period of national mourning following the death of Queen Elizabeth II.
