Homework

We recognise the value and importance of what good quality homework can support students to achieve:

  • Independent learning
  • Organisational skills
  • Time management and working to deadlines
  • The value of ‘little and often’ working
  • The value of extended working
  • Resilience and determination
  • Opportunity to plan for learning
  • Opportunity to extend learning
  • Opportunity for extended writing or projects

Perhaps more importantly is the role homework can have in building a genuine passion for learning; in the classroom and beyond the classroom.

We also recognise as a school that we still have much to do to build a culture and ethos that values the importance of good quality homework, with regular teacher feedback.

Through this academic year we have started to bring in meaningful homework activities for every year group and in every subject area.

Our ethos for homework at the school is:

  • Homework supports and contributes to positive student experience and progress
  • Teachers design homework to ensure students work harder than teachers,
  • Teachers design homework so the students complete meaningful activity
  • students expect and receive quality feedback for homework
  • good quality homework, with good quality feedback helps students recognise how valuable homework is

Student leadership of the school’s approach to homework

Deputy Head Boy Joe Dawson has been leading the next stage of the school’s approach to homework.
