An essential aspect of creativity is not being afraid to fail – Edwin Land

What will you study?

KS3 Curriculum Overview (Years 7-9)

During Year 7 and Year 8 you will study a range of modules involving different topics and themes. You will build skills such as performing, directing, devising and evaluating.

In Year 9 you will begin your GCSE in Drama through the form of a ‘Foundation Year’, where you will learn and explore the key skills necessary for the subject through a range of topics and have the opportunity to build upon your existing performance skills.

KS4 Curriculum Overview (Years 10-11)

The Drama GCSE is an intense two year course which requires you to be focused, energetic and creative. The subject is extremely practical and much of the work is group based, therefore excellent attendance is essential. Students opting for the course are treated more like members of a theatre company with many public performance opportunities arising, many assessed as part of the course.

You will follow the Eduqas GCSE Drama course. The course is broken down into three units:

Component 1 (40%) Devising Theatre – you will devise your own piece of theatre based on a variety of stimuli sent from the exam board. This component includes a practical internal exam (20%) and two pieces of written coursework (20%).

Component 2 (20%) Performing from a Text – you will work on two extracts from a scripted play, which is performed to a visiting examiner.

Component 3 (40%) Interpreting Theatre – this is a written exam where you will study a set text and answer questions about it as an actor, designer and director. You will also answer questions about live theatre that you have seen.
