Learning Support Assistants

The Student Support Team is dedicated to supporting students with Special Educational Needs. This includes supporting students within a classroom environment which enables them to access the curriculum alongside their peers.

Some students require further support and this is provided through intervention programmes, either within a small group or on an individual basis. The programmes include spelling rules, reading and comprehension, and maths. These are tailored to the needs of the students and are proven to be highly effective, not only in the students’ progress, but also with their self-esteem and confidence.

Emotional support is offered to those students who need help with understanding and managing the feelings of both themselves and others. Being emotionally literate helps students to focus better of their learning and so we offer students the opportunity to develop personal coping strategies, grow self-awareness and self-esteem, manage their sadness, understand anger and become more confident with their friendships.

ELSA intervention will typically last for about 6-10 weeks and will sign post to our partner agencies such as the Moving On Project or other relevant services for counselling or targeted support if this is required.
