Educational Visits

Trips, Visits & LOtC

The GFM offers a variety of Learning Outside the Classroom (LOtC) opportunities in the form of activities around the school grounds and off-site visits in the local learning area or further afield. All of which aim to supplement and enhance the curriculum or a chance to perhaps learn a new skill or to boost their health and well-being.

For any trip queries or financial support enquiries, please contact khamper@gfmat.org in the first instance.

All trip invite letters go out electronically via email. Those eligible will receive an invite from evolve.bruneparkvisits@edufocus.co.uk so please ensure you keep the school up-to-date with any changes to your contact details.  Eligibility varies from trip to trip.  These emails will give you the details of the trip and how to register your child’s interest.  Copies of trip letters can be found below. No communication has been sent home for the provisional trips shown below.

Duke of Edinburgh licensed centre

The Duke of Edinburgh (DofE) Award Scheme gives our pupils the opportunity to develop essential skills for life. With a focus on four areas; volunteering, physical, skills and expedition, the DofE expands the horizons of young people in numerous ways.

Working together and overcoming challenges in the outdoor environment develops self reliance and confidence, with participation in these shared experiences allowing initiative and teamwork to flourish.Pupils are able to make a difference to the lives of those in their community, as well as learning new skills throughout the programme.

Bay House School and Sixth Form is a licensed centre for the DofE Award Scheme. We currently offer the Bronze award to pupils in Year 9.

What does the Bronze Award involve?

It will usually take you at least 6 months to complete your Bronze programme.

  • Volunteering section: 3 months
  • Physical section: 3 months
  • Skills section: 3 months
  • Expedition section: 2 days/1 night (plus training)

You also have to spend an extra three months on one of the Volunteering, Physical or Skills sections. It’s your choice which one and, though you can change your mind later, you should decide which section you want to do for longer at the beginning. Knowing how long you’re going to do it for will help you to choose your activity and set your goals for each section.

Please go to www.dofe.org for more information

For further information or information about how to apply please contact Miss L Northcott, DofE Bronze Co-ordinator
